From recent developments and future directions in capsule endoscopy to a video review on the development and validation of an artificial intelligence model for small-bowel capsule endoscopy, all aspects of capsule endoscopy were covered by top experts at the recent Capsule Endoscopy Global Summit in Chongqing, China.

After a three-year absence, international experts such as Jean-Francois Rey, Anastasios Koulaouzidis, Jonathan Leighton, Miguel Mascarenhas, and Cristiano Spada were at last able to join their local counterparts, Side Liu, Ruihua Shi, Jie Wu, and many more local colleagues, in person for this leading summit.

The summit welcomed more than 600 participants on site and attracted more than 160 000 online views. Themed "Elevation in patient care," CEGS2023 aimed to provide researchers, industry pioneers, and clinical practitioners with a unique opportunity to share information on the latest advances and most exciting research developments in the field, and to explore the enhanced patient care made possible by capsule endoscopy.

With the event now in its 5th year, CEGS 2023 was a concerted effort by WEO and the Chinese Association of Gastroenterologists and Hepatologists (CAGH) with the support of prominent scientific partners such as Xinqiao Hospital, Army Medical University, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Children’s Hospital of Fudan University, and the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University.

Special thanks are due to Co-Host President, Professor Zhang Shu Tian, and to Jinshan Medical for their great contribution as the main organizer. WEO looks forward to welcoming more participants next year!
