A successful WEO course, “Improving the Outcomes of Pancreaticobiliary Endoscopy,” took place on Sunday, May 28, in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
The course was co-organized and hosted by Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC), in partnership with Mayo Clinic.
This intensive one-day course covered state-of-the-art techniques aimed at improving success rates and minimizing the risks associated with ERCP and EUS. The agenda included interactive lectures and hands-on and breakout sessions, led by eminent experts in ERCP and EUS techniques.
SSMC Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Naser Ammash, and Dean of Education, Prof. Abba Zubair, welcomed attendees who joined the course from UAE and beyond. Among the prominent faculty members at the event were Professors Lars Aabakken (Norway), Douglas Faigel (USA), and Michael Wallace (UAE).
Reflecting on the event, Prof. Faigel said: "This highly successful course took advantage of the excellent SSMC facilities, faculty, and staff for this first of its kind endoscopy program. We were able to teach attendees with diverse backgrounds on state-of-the-art techniques through our lectures, discussion sessions, and hands-on stations."
And Prof. Wallace noted: “SSMC is proud to host experts from around the world to share their knowledge with gastrointestinal physicians and surgeons in the Middle East and North Africa region. With the support of the WEO, we had a very effective one-day symposium focusing on advanced endoscopic skills to treat pancreaticobiliary disease.”
WEO would like to acknowledge the following companies for their support in making this course successful: Fujifilm, Erbe, Gulf Rider, Al Mazroui Medical & Chemical Supplies.
