WEO sends the most heartfelt congratulations to Dr. Jerry Waye.
ASGE announced the Jerry Waye Endowment to its membership in a letter that we are very pleased to also publish in our WEO newsletter:
ASGE proudly announces the Jerry Waye Endowment in recognition of Dr. Waye’s monumental contributions to GI endoscopy, and in celebration of Dr. Waye’s 90th birthday in September.
A past president of ASGE and recipient of the Rudolf Schindler Award, Dr. Waye’s many accomplishments include groundbreaking work on colonoscopy and polypectomy techniques, and he has become one of the world’s most impactful teachers and mentors in this field. He has published several hundred articles in peer-reviewed journals and has written seven textbooks including the major text on colonoscopy. He has lectured and participated in live endoscopy demonstrations on every continent. Dr. Waye was also co-founder and president of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and president of the World Endoscopy Organization. He is currently pioneering remote endoscopy education and teaching GI endoscopy techniques to colleagues in several African countries via a virtual platform.
The Jerry Waye Endowment will support ASGE programs and activities focused on GI endoscopy education, research and mentoring including an annual lecture to be presented at Digestive Disease Week® beginning in 2023.
Many of you have been directly influenced in your career by interactions and communications with Dr. Waye, but each and every gastroenterologist throughout the world has been impacted by Dr. Waye’s skill, knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity. We are asking you to join us by helping to create a suitable enduring tribute that will match Dr. Waye’s enduring legacy.

Donors will be recognized at Digestive Disease Week® in 2022 and 2023, at other major ASGE meetings, on ASGE’s website and in various other communications. For Platinum level supporters ($5,000), you will be invited to a festive dinner later this year in New York City with Dr. Waye. For Silver and Gold level donors ($1000+), your donation to the Waye Fund qualifies you as a Circle of Light Society donor this year. As our “Thank you,” the ASGE Foundation will offer you one complimentary registration and one reduced price registration to the Crystal Awards event held at the U.S. Grant hotel in San Diego.
