WEO warmly welcomes Dr. Klaus Mergener as Co-Chair of the Outreach Ad Hoc Committee for the newly added Middle East region. With this appointment, the Outreach Committee now has four regions to deliver various activities: Africa, South America, Southeast Asia, and the Middle East.

About Klaus Mergener:
Klaus Mergener, MD, PhD, MASGE, is an Affiliate Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. He trained at Frankfurt and Heidelberg University in Germany, and at Duke University and Harvard University in the U.S. He holds a PhD in molecular virology from the German Cancer Research Center in Heidelberg, where he worked with virologist and 2008 Nobel Prize Laureate Harald zur Hausen. He is a Past President of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.
