Building on the strength of WISE and in accordance to WISE program objectives, WEO collaborated with the Egyptian Liver Research Institute and Hospital (ELRIAH) to organize the first-ever WISE Egyptian Chapter.
The top ten participants from Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Sudan and Tunisia were selected from numerous applicants within Egypt and neighboring countries to participate in the training with special emphasis on hands-on experience. The course focused on linear EUS and comprised lectures by international experts, case presentations with discussion, and hands-on training on live cases.
WISE course founder and director, Professor Dong Wan Seo, commented, “Many doctors have benefited widely from the WISE program since its inception in 2018. I am very glad that WISE has expanded further through the collaborative effort of a WISE alumnus, Dr Elsayed Ghoneem.” Dr Elsayed Ghoneem further added, “I am the direct recipient of this outstanding course and it is my wish to bring the WISE course closer to home. The main objective of this course is to train young endoscopists to be independent endosonographers and, at the end of the course, for the trainees to be equipped with the ability to do diagnostic EUS efficiently. I am very delighted to share that there were a total of 20 hands-on cases in Module 1.”
In detail, the WISE 2022 Egyptian Chapter is under the direction and supervision of WISE course founder and director Professor Dong-Wan Seo and of Dr. Elsayed Ghoneem, Lecturer in Gastroenterology, Mansoura University, who is the Egyptian moderator of the course. This course is jointly organized by WEO and the Egyptian Liver Research Institute and Hospital (ELRIAH) under the patronage its CEO, Dr. Gamal Shiha, Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Mansoura University. Modules 2 and 3 will take place next year.
